‘Man United to sell Antony in £30m-plus deal’ – Fans jump at Real Betis news

Man United fans have taken to social media to react to comments from the Real Betis CEO regarding the possibility of Antony making a permanent move.

The ex-Ajax winger joined Real Betis on a short-term loan from Man United in the January transfer window, with no option or obligation to buy included in the deal.

Antony had been linked with a move away from Man United for months, particularly after the emergence of Amad in the first team.

Football Insider reported back in October that Man United were open to considering offers for Antony, and as the window drew to a close, he secured his loan move to Spain.

Man United could finally cut their losses on Antony

The Brazilian has made a strong start to life in Spain, scoring and being named Man of the Match in both of his first two games for Real Betis.

Betis CEO Ramon Alarcon recently addressed Antony’s future, and his comments have led many fans to believe the winger could finally be sold.

When asked about making the loan move permanent, Alarcon responded, “It’s a possibility” following the winger’s bright start.

Antony had struggled for game time at Man United this season, featuring rarely under both Erik ten Hag and new manager Ruben Amorim.

He made just 14 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring only once and failing to provide an assist.

The Brazil international did not start a single Premier League match and was only named in the starting XI twice, both times in the Carabao Cup.

Remarkably, he has already started as many games for Real Betis as he did in his entire time at Man United this season, having featured in both of their league matches since his arrival.

Man United fans urge Real Betis to make Antony’s move permanent

Since his high-profile €95million (£81.3m) transfer in 2022 under Ten Hag, Antony has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford.

His output has been underwhelming, with just 12 goals and five assists in 96 appearances for United.

While he is no longer part of the squad, the club are dealing with profit and sustainability issues, meaning a sale could significantly ease their financial situation.

Fans were delighted by Alarcon’s comments, with one saying, “This is what Man United fans want” while another urged Betis to act, pleading, “Please keep him”. Various cited asking prices well down from what he cost on arrival from Ajax, with two fans indicating just £30m would be enough to secure his services.
