Martin Keown believes that Everton playmaker Ross Barkley should ignore reported interest from Tottenham and remain at Goodison Park.
The Daily Mail claim that Spurs are at the front of the queue to sign the 23-year-old, but Everton are keen to give the England international a new contract at the end of the season.
The report details that the north London club have been long-term admirers of the attacking midfielder and have tracked him since he first broke into the Toffees squad.
Ex-Arsenal defender Keown has warned that Barkley’s career could stall if he were to make the move to White Hart Lane.
“There have been suggestions that he could move clubs this summer – Tottenham are interested in signing him,” Keown told the Daily Mail. “If he wants to be the best he possibly can, he needs to stay with Everton. He’ll develop best there.”
