Frank McAvennie has claimed it was “strange” Odsonne Edouard was not even at the stadium for the latest Celtic struggle.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Hoops striker and big fan was baffled by the striker’s latest absence in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Livingston.

Edouard has missed Celtic’s last three matches amid intense speculation he is set for a big-money exit either this month or in the summer.

As revealed by Football Insider, Celtic have slashed their asking price for Edouard to £25million after demanding £40million from suitors last summer.

It is understood the French hitman is willing to wait until the end of the season, when he will have 12 months left on his contract at Parkhead, before pushing for the exit.

Neil Lennon explained that Edouard did not feature against Livi – after missing the previous two matches as he was in Covid quarantine – due to a hamstring injury.

McAvennie is a big admirer of Edouard but claims it was a mystery he was not at least present at Almondvale Stadium on Wednesday.

“I do not get it,” he told Football Insider. “Why was Edouard not at least in the stadium? It is a strange one. You hear all sorts of stories.”

A wild story emerging from Spain earlier this week was Real Madrid have joined the race for Edouard.

McAvennie explained to this site why he gives this link short shrift.

Real Madrid? He is not good enough yet. He has got a lot of time on his hands and while he has the capabilities of going to Real Madrid, not yet.

“I think he will be better than Dembele though. Edouard has the talent.”
