Rangers’ imminent deal for Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo is likely to rule out a return for Ryan Kent at Ibrox this summer, according to Jackie McNamara.
The former Scottish international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that Steven Gerrard will be looking to replace one Reds loanee with another and that the arrival of Ojo could be a double edged sword for the Rangers supporters.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Ojo is set to sign on a season-long loan deal for the Glasgow giants next week after verbally agreeing a move, with talks ongoing over a potential return for Kent.
However McNamara says that Ojo’s signing looks to be a replacement for Kent, who played his way into the hearts of the Light Blues fans with his impressive performances..
Asked about the Gers’ chances of seeing Kent come back, McNamara told Football Insider: “There’s been talks of Leeds having a loan bid rejected, so it remains to be seen whether Liverpool sell him or loan him out.
“Rangers would like to get back him there but that’s why they’re taking the other one (Ojo) from Liverpool.
“They’ll be hoping he can make the same impact Kent made for them. He’s one that Steven knows as well from playing at Liverpool and being youth manager. He knows what he’s seen in the Scottish Premiership and what the boy has.
Kent, 22, made 43 appearances for Rangers during his loan spell at the club, scoring six goals and setting his teammates up for nine assists.
Ojo meanwhile spent most of the 2018/19 campaign with Ligue 1 side Stade Reims on a season-long temporary deal but managed to play just 18 times for the French outfit, a single goal and assist to his name.
