While Everton were beating Leicester at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, Man City defender Eliaquim Mangala was undergoing a medical, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed on their transfer blog (20.36) that the 26-year-old enforcer was at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground undergoing a medical.
The Telegraph claimed earlier in their transfer blog (2.32pm), that the former French international was expected to move on loan for the rest of the season, with an option to make it permanent in the summer.
If all goes to plan that Mangala will be Allardyce’s latest signing in a busy January transfer window.
Football Insider verdict:
Mangala was a huge signing for Man City in 2014 but it didn’t work out for him at the Etihad. He spent last season on loan at Valencia and was talked up by Guardiola in his most recent press conference, and there’s no doubt that he can still do a job in the Premier League. Newcastle had been linked too but it looks like Everton are about to announce Mangala as long as he passes his medical. Things are looking so much better now for Everton than they were a couple of months ago, with Theo Walcott scoring goals and now Mangala arriving to shore things up at the other end.
In other Everton transfer news, they have leapfrogged Newcastle United in the pursuit of a Premier League defender.
