Medical scheduled: Benitez wants new left-back in place at Newcastle this week - report
By Harry Sykes
Rafael Benitez is keen to sign a new left-back this week as Newcastle close in on the signing of Stoke striker Joselu, according to a report.
The Mail claim that Joselu, 27, has travelled to Tyneside to undergo a medical after the terms of a £5.5million transfer were agreed.
It is said that manager Benitez also wants to add a left-back within the coming days after Paul Dummett limped out of their opening day defeat to Tottenham.
The Mail report that versatile Genoa ace Diego Laxalt, who can play at both left-back and in midfield, has been the subject of an enquiry from the Magpies.
Laxalt played in 39 matches in all competitions last season for the Serie A club, returning four assists and one goal, but he has entered the final year of his contract at the side.

Newcastle have so far added Jacob Murphy, Florian Lejeune, Christian Atsu, Javier Manquillo and Mikel Merino to their ranks this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
Laxalt’s versatility makes him attractive and a sound potential squad option. The north east giants will be aware that they can only register 25 players, which is proving detrimental to the club after building a large squad to ensure their promotion from England’s second tier. Benitez’s left-back options vary between average and below par, and an upgrade is certainly needed. Laxalt’s stats are hardly mind-blowing, but he is fairly inexpensive due to his contract situation and his top-flight experience could prove very handy.
