Mohamed Salah’s next club: Odds tumble on Chelsea return ahead of summer transfer window

Mohamed Salah is set to be on the hunt for another club in the summer, with Chelsea backed to re-sign the winger.

The Liverpool legend will call time on his stay at Anfield in the coming months after being the star man behind a golden age in Merseyside.

As a result, speculation is high on where the Egypt international could end up next, with a club in the Saudi Arabian league seemingly the most likely destination.

However, one bookmaker has priced a Chelsea return at just 8/1, with Oddschecker on 26 March confirming that these odds have been slashed.

Below, Football Insider has explored Salah’s previous career at Chelsea and how a move to the club could affect his Liverpool legacy.

Mohamed Salah’s Chelsea career explained

Salah previously played for Chelsea between 2014 and 2016 after signing from FC Basel.

Here, the winger served as a squad player, making 19 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.

However, he struggled to truly establish himself, which led to loan moves to Fiorentina and Roma before he permanently moved to the latter club.

Salah was just one of many young, upcoming prospects that Chelsea had let go too early in this era without allowing them to fulfil their potential.

Now, if he chooses to go back to the Blues in the summer, while he would instantly become a star player, it would no doubt affect his legacy at Liverpool.

The Reds are allowing him to leave for free in the summer, despite him still having a year left on his contract.

Therefore, if he decides to move to a potential Champions League or Premier League title rival, it will be poor taste as it could directly impact Liverpool’s 2026-27 campaign.

However, at 8/1 odds, the bookies still see a move back to Chelsea as only an outside possibility. Therefore, the Anfield faithful need not worry too much yet.

Who else is linked to Salah?

While Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Salah’s poor season could see Arne Slot sacked, there is no doubt that the winger is still a top player.

Therefore, any club that is able to secure his signature in the summer can count itself lucky.

As it stands, the Saudi League is the favourite to win his signature, at 8/11, while the MLS is not far behind at 15/8.

Roma are considered potential outsiders at 10/1, alongside Paris Saint-Germain at 11/1.

However, it remains to be seen where Salah chooses to go in the summer.
