Murty: Outstanding Rangers player could be in line for World Cup

Rangers manager Graeme Murty believes Alfredo Morelos will be being looked at for a place in Colombia’s World Cup squad after an “outstanding” debut season for the Gers.
The 21-year-old has hit the net 15 times in 30 appearances for the Gers to overtake Faustino Asprilla’s record for goals scored by a Colombian in Europe.
Morelos has yet to win a full international cap but has emerged as a surprise contender after his goalscoring form this term.
Murty believes all Morelos can do is keep scoring “loads and loads and loads of goals” as his rewards will come.
“We haven’t had any contact yet, but all Alfredo can do is continue to be outstanding,” Murty said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“If he’s the top scorer in this league, then I have no doubt they will be looking at him.
“He will have the opportunity to be successful here but he has to make sure he prepares properly, he lives properly, he works properly at his game and is diligent. He is doing those things.
“We need to put him in front of those guys that are going to make that decision.
“He has to make them aware of him, make them sit up and take notice and how do you do that? He has to score loads and loads and loads of goals.”
Morelos has been the subject of repeated bids from the Chinese Super League with reports in the Scottish Sun on Friday claiming the Gers have rejected a £9million bid for the striker.
El Bufalo joined Rangers last summer from Finnish champions HJK Helsinki in a £1million move and has been one of the few signings made by Pedro Caixinha who can be considered a huge success at Ibrox.
If Morelos does make the Colombian World Cup squad, he could find himself coming up against Japan, Poland and Senegal in Russia over the summer – and even a potential clash with Ibrox team-mate Bruno Alves’ Portugal in the knockout rounds.
