Vurnon Anita has revealed he does not know if he will remain with Newcastle as his contract enters its final two months at St. James’ Park.
Anita, 28, has been an integral member of Rafa Benitez’s side this season, but his future is in doubt with his current deal set to expire on June 30.
Speaking to the Evening Chronicle, Holland international Anita revealed that he is unsure if he will remain with the Magpies but revealed that he wants to be a part of the side next season.
“Of course, but it’s not up to me,” Anita responded, when asked if he wants to stay on Tyneside. “I am open to everything. I will see what happens.
“I have to wait and see, it is up to the club. We have to see what the club decides.
“Hopefully we can stay together and then work for next season.”
Playing in both midfield and at right-back, former Ajax star Anita has made 31 league and cup appearances for Benitez’s side this season with injuries preventing him from making more.
Newcastle’s number eight has remained with the Toon since joining from Ajax back in the summer of 2012, and has since made a huge 155 league and cup appearances.
But Anita, along with French teammate Yoann Gouffran, could be set to leave the club in the next two months as they look set to become available on a free transfer in less than two months.
In other Newcastle transfer news, Don Goodman believes the Toon must do this in the summer in order to steer clear of a Premier League relegation dog fight.
