Newcastle attacker in talks with title favourites - Sky Sports

Newcastle attacker Siem De Jong is in talks with Ajax, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [07:49am] that De Jong, 28, is discussing the possibility of a return to his old club after enduring a frustrating three years on the books at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle signed the six-times Netherlands international in 2014 but since then he has made a staggering low amount of appearances by featuring just 26 times across all competitions.
He has scored just two goals for the Magpies and spent last season out on loan with Ajax’s Eredivisie rivals PSV.
The attacking midfielder scored seven goals in 25 appearances in all contests for PSV and he even managed to find the net against Ajax in a 1-1 draw last December.

De Jong began his professional career at the Amsterdam club, making a stunning 244 appearances and scoring 78 goals as he become a true fan favourite of the Dutch giants’ supporters.
Ajax are highly likely to contend for the Eredivise title this season with SkyBet making them 11/8 favourites to finish top of the pile come next May.
Football Insider Verdict
De Jong arrived at Newcastle three years ago with bags of promise after horrifying opponents in the Dutch Eredivisie with Ajax. The fact that he had almost 250 career appearances at the age of 25 was very impressive and Newcastle fans were right to be excited about him at the time. However things just haven’t seem to have worked out for De Jong on Tyneside. Serious injuries like a collapsed lung scuppered his debut season in England and after nearly a whole season without kicking a ball, De Jong’s career seemed to have completed stalled. There’s no doubt that Newcastle fans won’t be gracious in letting the Dutchman leave, especially when it is to join the club that he made a name for himself at.
