Newcastle ‘confident’ over Alexander Isak deal after Chelsea offer – sources

Newcastle are “very confident” Alexander Isak will be at the club when the transfer window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.

Chelsea had held talks with Newcastle earlier this summer and there was also strong interest in him from Tottenham and Arsenal as well as top European clubs.

Football Insider revealed that Chelsea were willing to offer Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja, and Trevor Chalobah in a part-exchange deal for Isak.

Newcastle fended that off around the time of the 30th June accounting deadline, when they were under pressure to sell off multiple top stars, and have been resolute in their desire not to sell a player considered integral to Eddie Howe’s plans.

Preliminary talks have now started over a new contract for Isak, as Newcastle are planning for his long-term future to be with the club.

Isak has been vital to Newcastle’s performances since he joined the club in 2022, establishing himself as one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League.

The Sweden international finished last season with 21 goals in the league, a figure only topped by Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer.

With 35 goals in 67 Premier League appearances so far, Isak’s consistency has been beneficial to Howe’s side and their style of play.

Another Newcastle star who’s expected to remain at St James’ Park after this transfer window is Bruno Guimaraes.

Despite interest from Man City, Football Insider reported that the Brazil international is set to stay at the Magpies for next season.
