Mauricio Pochettino should look to beat Chelsea to the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web claim Antonio Conte is keen on the 27-year-old, who is rated at £55million, as he looks to further improve on his Premier League winning squad.
The Gabon international has been in red-hot form this year and has scored 29 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances this season.
A player of Aubameyang’s calibre would improve any Premier League side, but if Spurs are to challenge for the title and the Champions League next season they need to sign these kinds of players.
If they can beat Chelsea to his signature it would show the Premier League top-six that Tottenham are ready to become a dominant force in the division.
Spurs have fallen short this season and last season in the title race, and have just lacked something extra.
Aubameyang is genuinely world class, and has been banging goals in for Dortmund for several years.
He could be the difference between Tottenham doing really well and finishing second, and actually winning the Premier League.
Pochettino’s side is already overflowing with attacking talent, but although Harry Kane is a fine goal scorer his play can be one dimensional, Aubameyang’s is anything but that.
The 48-time Gabon international has pace to burn, and as well as playing up top, he can play on either side of a front three.
One hugely disappointing area of Spurs’ season was their Champions League campaign – they failed to make it out of the group and then crashed out of the Europa League in the last 32.
Aubameyang scored seven goals in nine Champions League games this term and is a proven performer in the competition and has 11 goals in 26 appearances overall.
He’d undoubtedly improve the team but has Daniel Levy got the stomach for that sort of chase?
