'Rather have Albert Luque' - Newcastle fans blast first team stalwart in defeat v Burnley

By Russell Edge

Newcastle United fans were left furious on social media with the performance of Ayoze Perez after he disappointed in the 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday.

The Spanish attacking midfielder has been a stalwart this season, having named in the starting XI of every one of the club’s 10 league matches, but has come under heavy criticism after a series of unimpressive displays.

Monday saw him line up behind striker Joselu in a playmaker’s role but he was ineffectual yet again, and lost possession which led to Jeff Hendrick’s goal which separated the two sides.

Newcastle supporters were livid with what they saw from the 24-year-old in the north west and took to Twitter to voice their frustrations.

Perez has just one goal and one assist to his name this season, despite his constant game time, and it comes after an impressive campaign in the Championship last season.

Fighting it out with Mo Diame, who was also slated by fans after starting on Monday, he made 36 league appearances for the club, netting nine times and chipping in with a further seven assists for his team mates.

In total Perez, who can also operate as a centre forward, has 126 Newcastle appearances under his belt, with 26 goals and 10 assists under his belt.

In other Newcastle United news, Jamaal Lascelles did not hold back in his assessment of the clash.
