Newcastle fans rage at ‘shocking’ Jacob Murphy after what he did v Forest

Newcastle United fans were left raging at Jacob Murphy following his “shocking” performance during their clash v Nottingham Forest.

Eddie Howe’s side cruised to a comfortable 4-3 win at St James’ Park after goals from Lewis Miley, Murphy, and a brace from Alexander Isak overturned Callum Hudson-Odoi’s early opener.

The second half saw Nikola Milenkovic and Ryan Yates pull two goals back for the visitors while Newcastle struggled to hit the levels they had shown over the first 45 minutes.

Despite getting on the scoresheet, however, it was Murphy’s performance which left the home supporters up in arms after the comfortable victory.

The 29-year-old was directly at fault for Forest’s opening goal after gifting the ball to Hudson-Odoi and struggled to link up with his teammates going forward.

He completed just 59 per cent of his passes, failed to hit the target with any of his three crosses, and gave possession away 19 times before being taken off for Harvey Barnes after 70 minutes. [Sofascore]

Amid plenty of specualtion about Murphy’s long-term future in this side, supporters have been heavily critical of his latest performance and are now calling for him to be replaced.

Newcastle plot new right-wing signing in summer transfer twist

A new right-winger has been the top target for Newcastle in the last two transfer windows, but they have yet to find the right player to strengthen the position.

Now, calls for the club to invest heavily in a new option have grown, and they are expected to make a move when the summer transfer window opens.

Football Insider revealed that a right-sided forward is the number-one transfer priority for Eddie Howe amid links with various top-class stars.

One player who has been heavily linked with the move to St James’ Park is Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who has a £50million asking price.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 14 February that Brentford are under pressure to cash in on Mbuemo, whose contract expires in 2026.

Murphy has been impressive on the right-hand side for Newcastle so far this season despite their attempts to land a new star to play in his position.

He has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 24 Premier League performances so far this season in Howe’s side, quickly earning the respect of the St James’ Park fans.

However, after a disappointing performance against Newcastle, supporters have taken to social media to label him “shocking” and insist they need a new option.
