Newcastle fans react on Twitter as Steve McClaren sacked by Derby

By Amir Mir

Steve McClaren has been sacked as Derby County manager – and Newcastle fans on Twitter have seen the funny side to his dismissal.

The Rams confirmed on their official website on Sunday evening that the 56-year-old has departed the club with immediate effect.

Former Magpies boss McClaren re-joined the Midlands club in October when Nigel Pearson was sacked as manager after they were flirting with relegation during the early part of the Championship campaign.

It is the second time that Derby have sacked McClaren and there is no surprise that supporters in the north-east have enjoyed their former boss receiving his P45 once again.

McClaren was sacked from his job at St James’ Park at the back end of last season as the club were heading for relegation from the Premier League.

He spent over £50million during that campaign but still struggled to produce consistent performances as fans blamed him for dropping down to the second tier.

One Magpies fan was hoping that McClaren’s next job is trying to help Sunderland earn promotion from the Championship next season.

Their north east rivals are currently managed by David Moyes but the Mackems have struggled for the majority of this campaign as they currently sit bottom of the table.

Nonetheless, many fans believe that they were right about what they thought about McClaren and what type of coach he is.

Despite his sacking, one supporter still managed to find a negative by stating the former England boss will now regularly feature on Sky Sports.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
