Newcastle fans react as Brighton take pole position after win v QPR

Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts after Brighton earned a 2-1 win at QPR.

Glenn Murray and Sebastien Pocognoli scored in the second half to send Chris Hughton’s side top of the Championship table.

Matt Smith pulled one back for the hosts in the 74th minute but the damage had already been done as Newcastle were ousted from pole position in the league standings.

The Magpies and the Seagulls have endured a hotly contested race for the league title all season.

They have been the runaway contenders for automatic promotion with only Huddersfield mounting anywhere near a serious threat of breaking what has been almost a season-long trend.

Newcastle can return to the summit of the second-tier if they beat Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Anything less would see Brighton keep hold of first place with seven games to play.

The Newcastle supporters didn’t seem too bothered by dropping down to second place and showed their sportsmanship by congratulating their title rivals for the win.

Newcastle have won their last two matches following a minor blip which saw them earn just one point in a three-game period.

The dip in form helped Brighton close down the gap to the Tynesiders after they managed to pull a bit of a lead over them thanks to a 2-1 win at the AMEX in February.
