Newcastle fans react on Twitter to reported £20m-rated midfielder performance
By Will Butcher
Newcastle fans were mesmerised on Twitter by Tom Cairney after the Fulham ace inspired his side’s 3-1 win at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Cairney, 26, starred in the middle of the park for Fulham, and broke the deadlock during the fantastic away victory for the Cottagers with a powerful effort from the edge of the box.
The Chronicle claimed that Newcastle remain interested in signing the midfielder, after being quoted £20million for his services in January.
Teenage star Ryan Sessegnon also starred for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side, scoring a wonderful brace before Ireland international Daryl Murphy found the back of the net late on.
Newcastle fans reacted to Cairney’s sparkling performance for Fulham, with many questioning the club’s decision not to meet the quoted price tag to bring the former Hull ace to Tyneside.

@NUFC let themselves down at home again today, do the hard work then put in an appalling display today. Sign Cairney up in the summer please

Said before the game I was worried about Cairney. My cousin (a Blackburn fan) rates him better than Shelvey. Should've signed him in Summer.

Wearing the Fulham armband this season, Cairney has seen his stock continue to rise this season after scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists this season.
However, the fans’ desire to sign the Cottagers’ number 10 may go unfulfilled as the six-time Scotland Under-21’s international has more than two years remaining on his current contract. And his price might be rising.
