Newcastle fans have taken to social media to give their opinions on the new badge that will appear on next season’s kit.

The Magpies unveiled the commemorative crest on their official Twitter page.

The club will be celebrating 125 years since they were founded in 1892.

In a statement on the club’s official website they also said that their next kit will be shown soon.

Newcastle supporters gave a rousing reception to the new gold and black badge which was shown in a teaser trailer featuring the club’s top goal scorer Dwight Gayle.

Many want the club to ditch a main shirt sponsor and bring back red lettering on the back of the shirt next season in order to give the kit a more authentic feel.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Toon Army about the new crest:

Newcastle are currently second in the Championship but look well on their way to secure an instant return to the Premier League.

They have been in a battle for the league title with Brighton for most of the season but the south coast club currently have the upper-hand after Rafa Benitez saw his side lose to Sheffield Wednesday last week.

The Tynesiders welcome Leeds to St. James’ Park on Friday night in their next match.
