Newcastle fans react on Twitter to reported interest in PL speed machine

By Will Butcher

Newcastle fans have questioned their club on Twitter after they were reportedly interested in signing Swansea’s Modou Barrow.

The Chronicle claimed on Monday that the Toon have turned their attention to Barrow, who has been left out of Paul Clement’s Swansea side for the past two games.

Known for his electrifying pace, speed machine Barrow has the ability to glide past full-backs before reaching the byline and looking to cross.

With the Toon desperate to sign a winger this month, Barrow has been targeted after the Shields Gazette revealed that a move for Andros Townsend had hit the rocks.

Newcastle fans have reacted with disappointment on Twitter after comparing Swansea’s Barrow to former Toon ace Townsend, with some hilarious responses summing up fans’ beliefs.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Barrow has played 19 games in all competitions this season, providing three assists, with his last appearance coming during the 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth in December.

However, Swansea’ number 17 has failed to score this season and scored just twice in 55 league and cup appearances during his time with the Welsh giants.

In other Newcastle transfer news, the Toon are one of six teams interested in this 23-year-old Championship star.
