Newcastle fans thrilled by journalist’s update on ‘sensational signing’ from Brighton
Newcastle fans reacted positively on social media in response to a fresh transfer update as the club stepped up their search for another player from Brighton alongside Joao Pedro.
The Magpies are expected to be busy this summer, with several positions in need of reinforcement and strengthening their defence remains a clear priority.
Newcastle supporters have already been calling for the club to secure a move for Pedro after reports confirmed the club have reignited their interest in the Brazilian forward.
Pedro enjoyed a strong season for Brighton, scoring 10 goals and registering seven assists, which saw him nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Brighton are understood to be open to a sale for Pedro and are seeking a fee in the region of £60 million for his signature.
While negotiations over the forward continue, it now appears another Brighton player has caught the attention of Eddie Howe and his recruitment staff.

Newcastle eyeing move for Jan Paul van Hecke
Alongside their ongoing interest in Pedro, Howe’s side are also reportedly considering a move for Jan Paul van Hecke.
Journalist Charlie Haffenden for 3 Added Minutes and Birmingham World reported on X that Newcastle have held “provisional talks” over signing Van Hecke, adding that the club are “keen on both” the Dutch defender and Pedro as part of their summer recruitment.
Van Hecke enjoyed an outstanding season at Brighton, winning multiple end-of-season awards after a string of assured performances at the back.
However, it remains to be seen whether Brighton would be willing to part with one of their standout defenders.

Newcastle fans urge Jan Paul van Hecke signing after links
The Magpies’ interest in both players has sparked discussion particularly given the irony that Pedro was reportedly involved in a training ground altercation with Van Hecke last season, which led to the forward being sidelined for a spell.
But with a new centre-back clearly on the radar, especially after missing out on Dean Huijsen who opted to join Real Madrid, and Marc Guehi last summer, supporters are fully behind the move for Van Hecke.
One fan wrote: “Jan Paul van Hecke would be the heir to Schar’s throne… Whatever they want, PAY IT!” Another added: “Best link we’ve had this summer.”
