Newcastle given new way to complete Anthony Elanga deal – ‘make it happen’

Newcastle are finally able to do some business this summer with Anthony Elanga edging closer to joiningafter battling PSR issues for three transfer windows on the spin.

Eddie Howe is desperate to make some upgrades to his Magpies squad in order to prepare for their return to the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Newcastle remain interested in Elanga, as they bid to solve their right-wing position issues.

Elanga scored six goals and picked up 11 assists in the Premier League last season, as Nottingham Forest secured European football.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Magpies will get the Elanga deal done, but it may not be a straight money-for-player swap.

‘Swap deal to be done for Elanga,’ says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness suggested that Magpies could potentially agree a swap deal with Nottingham Forest, which would see Elanga head to St James’ Park and one of Eddie Howe’s squad go the other way.

Newcastle were interested in the Swedish winger last summer, but failed to get the deal over the line.

Wyness conceded that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is a “hard negotiator” but still believes that the two clubs can come to an agreement.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think there could be potentially be some sort of player swap deal.

“It will depend on the installments as to how the deal is structured, but I think there’s business to be done there.

“Elanga apparently wants away and I think he would fit Newcastle absolutely perfectly.

“I think he would probably be a good replacement for Jacob Murphy if they were to even consider selling him, and I think there’d be a market for him as well.

“We know that Marinakis is a hard negotiator, but nevertheless I think there’s a deal to be done there and it could well be some sort of quality player swap that makes it happen.”

Newcastle get Joao Pedro boost

Newcastle United are set to benefit from Joao Pedro’s behind-the-scenes fall-out at Brighton this summer.

Pedro is high on the shortlist at St James’ Park as they look to add competition and cover for superstar striker Alexander Isak.

Sources say the forward’s training ground fallout could give the Magpies a boost in their pursuit of the Brazilian – who is keen to play Champions League football and is ready to leave the south coast club.
