Newcastle make decision about re-signing Elliot Anderson amid Nottingham Forest unrest

Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is attracting high-profile interest from a number of elite clubs amid uncertainty about his future.

The midfielder made his England debut earlier this season and left admirers stunned as Anderson was named man of the match against Andorra.

Since then, his displays at the City Ground have also attracted high praise despite a poor run of results, with Forest having won just one league game this season.

Man United are among those interested in Anderson, but Football Insider revealed last month that Ange Postecoglou is determined to keep Anderson at Forest.

Now, his former club Newcastle are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation in case a deal becomes available in next summer’s transfer window.

Newcastle set sights on sensational Elliot Anderson return

Football Insider revealed on 14 September that Anderson is happy to stay at Nottingham Forest and will not push for a move away in the immediate future.

However, his boyhood club believe they could tempt him away from the City Ground and would have the edge over rivals in their pursuit.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Magpies would be keen to re-sign Anderson if he became available.

Newcastle would be keen to bring Anderson back, of course,” he told Football Insider.

“They weren’t too keen to let him go in the first place and would have been happy to keep him if it wasn’t for the financial situation they were in.

“So if the opportunity came up to bring him back, I’m sure they’d be all over it, so they’ll be keeping an eye on him and seeing if something could happen.

“Looking at the Newcastle midfield that played against Forest, all three of them are hard workers and grafters who can put in tackles and bully their opposition.

“But Anderson is the type of player who would bring a little bit of class to the side, like he would in probably any team in the Premier League.”

The midfielder’s performances have not gone unnoticed by some of the game’s biggest voices either, with high praise as Joe Cole compared Anderson to Steven Gerrard.

Nottingham Forest players are ‘not happy’ at the City Ground

Brown told Football Insider that some players at Nottingham Forest are “not happy” amid growing uncertainty surrounding Postecoglou’s future.

Multiple players were left shocked by the decision to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, and should another change be made, could become disillusioned.

That has raised questions about a number of first-team stars given the uncertainty surrounding the club, with Anderson’s future among those being discussed.

Three defeats in a week have seen the pressure on his position ramped up, as Forest fans were singing “sacked in the morning” during the loss against Midtjylland.

While he currently appears to have the support of the owner, it has been shown how quickly things can change at the City Ground, with further unrest expected.
