Newcastle plot bid for Dutch international with PL rivals to sanction eleventh hour sale - report
By Danny Wright
Newcastle are weighing up a bid for Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie, according to a report.
The Daily Echo claims that the Saints will look to sanction a late summer sale of Clasie, 26, if they receive a decent enough offer with just over 24 hours left until the transfer window slams shut.
It is understood that the 17-times Dutch international does not figure in Mauricio Pellegrino’s first-team plans at St. Mary’s Stadium and will be ready to sell him if a “suitable offer” comes in at the eleventh hour of the transfer window.
Southampton’s swoop of Mario Lemina from Juventus has sent Clasie further down the pecking order and the former Feyenoord star has failed to feature once so far this season.
Newcastle are not the only club hoping to raid their Premier League rivals for the midfielder though as Crystal Palace are also said to be in the running to come in with a last-minute offer.

Clasie made 24 appearances across all competitions for Southampton last season, scoring one goal in the process which came in a 1-0 win over West Brom in the Premier League.
Football Insider Verdict
Clasie is a very underrated player and when played correctly he can be an absolute menace to his opposition. The Dutchman would be a tidy addition to the Magpies squad and could be available on the cheap due to Southampton’s willingness to let him leave at such a late stage of the transfer window. He isn’t going to play much on the south coast this summer so he also may want to force his way through the exit door at St. Mary’s. The only problem is Crystal Palace’s interest. The Eagles are desperate for signings and with Selhurst Park a lot closer geographically to Southampton, it might be a more glamorous proposition for him to move to the capital.
