Benitez given price for long-term PL target, £4m will seal deal

By Harry Sykes

Newcastle have been offered Swansea winger Jefferson Montero as he enters the last year of his contract at the Liberty Stadium, according to a report.

The Northern Echo claims that Benitez was interested in Montero in January, and that he could still be an option for the Magpies if a deal for preferred target Adama Traore from Middlesbrough doesn’t materialise.

It is claimed that Traore would cost the Magpies £15million and that means that Montero would be a much cheaper option at around the £4million mark.

Benitez is keen to add more attacking width to his side ahead of the new Premier League campaign, and these are two of the options that he has been linked with.

The Northern Echo also claims that Andros Townsend is another option, and Benitez would be keen if Crystal Palace were interested in selling.

They claim that Benitez could also be set to make an offer for former Man City winger Jesus Navas, who is a free agent after his contract ran out at the start of July.

In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies odds of signing this attacker from Man City have been slashed.
