Newcastle schedule transfer talks this week - reliable journalist
By Harry Sykes
Rafael Benitez will hold transfer talks with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley in the coming days, according to a reliable journalist.
Times correspondent George Caulkin took to Twitter on Thursday to deliver an update on the situation at the top of the club.
It has been reported in the last 24 hours that controversial billionaire Ashley has given Benitez the cold shoulder in recent months and has not even congratulated the Spaniard on securing automatic promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Newcastle will be back in the top flight next season after Monday’s resounding 4-1 win against Preston at St James’ Park heralded celebrations on Tyneside.
But days later the north-east giants were plunged into turmoil as it was announced that the club’s offices had been raided as part of a HMRC tax investigation and managing director Lee Charnley had been arrested before being released without charge.

Caulkin took to his personal Twitter account to report that there were “more positive vibes” at the club on Thursday.
Ashley rang Benitez to congratulate him on promotion and schedule a meeting later this week “to discuss future/transfers”.
Much more positive vibes at Nufc today: Ashley rang Benitez this morning, meeting planned for next few days to discuss future/transfers etc. https://t.co/o5X7OOOZnR

Champions League-winning manager Benitez is a hero among supporters for remaining at the club this season following relegation and guiding them immediately back to the top flight.
In other Newcastle United news, a brilliant text about Moussa Sissoko has been circulated among the club’s staff after Wednesday’s HMRC raid.
