Newcastle tipped to complete four new signings after 'amazing' Edwards update - pundit

Newcastle will avoid relegation if they follow the signing of Kieran Trippier with four more new faces.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ next transfer move.

Newcastle confirmed on Friday (7 January) they had secured Trippier’s capture from Atletico Madrid.

As per The Telegraph on Tuesday, the Toon want to sign two centre-backs a left-back and a striker this month.

This means Eddie Howe will have five new players to choose from as he attempts to guide Newcastle away from the relegation zone.

Kenny insists four more arrivals will be “amazing” for Newcastle ahead of a huge second half of the season.

“Trippier is a great signing,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They want four more, that will keep them up. Mainly, they need to get that defence sorted because we all know it has been shocking.

“I think five players is probably enough. If they are of the same quality as Trippier, that will be enough.

“The Trippier signing has gone down so well, it would be amazing if that report is right and Newcastle could get a few more of those in.

“It could happen as well. We know the money is there. If Trippier can come, who else could arrive?

“The last thing is just to get them in as quickly as possible, that’s key.”

Newcastle currently sit 19th in the Premier League table.

Howe’s side were also dumped out of the FA Cup by Cambridge on Saturday (8 January).
