Newcastle tipped to sanction £75m Jan payout after Staveley reveal - pundit

Newcastle United will hand Eddie Howe close to £75million to spend in the January transfer window.

That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies recruitment plans.

Speaking to NUFC TV (November 11th), Newcastle director Amanda Staveley revealed the club are already “preparing for the January transfer window”.

As revealed by Football Insider the club plan to make three top-quality signings in the winter window.

It is understood that two centre-backs and a central midfielder are top of the shopping list.

When asked by Football Insider what kind of budget would likely be needed to achieve those targets, Phillips said:

“Well, they don’t want to go out there and get a couple of decent defenders. They need top-class defenders who are going to help the club over the next four or five seasons.

“To build a solid backline costs money.

“I think the owners will give Howe close to £75million in January. You’d think that is nothing for owners as wealthy as they are. I’m sure the funds will be there for Howe.”

Staveley told NUFC TV: “January is amongst us so we’re preparing for the January transfer window.

“It’s not a window that we would ordinarily want to invest in, because you probably don’t get the right deals, but that’s something that is important at the moment and preparing for that.”

In other news, Manchester United have been told to accept Dean Henderson offer as Newcastle swoop reported pre-January.
