Huge blow for Newcastle as Benitez confirms injury to key 23-year-old
By Danny Wright
Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Newcastle will be without DeAndre Yedlin for up to two weeks with a thigh injury.
The 23-year-old didn’t feature in the squad for Tuesday’s goalless draw with Reading after injuring himself when he came off the bench against Huddersfield.
The Magpies boss revealed that the right-back has a possible muscle tear.
If Yedlin was to miss two weeks of action, he wouldn’t factor in the upcoming games against Fulham and Birmingham.
After the Reading stalemate, Brighton closed the gap to league leaders Newcastle down to just three points with a win at Rotherham.

Yedlin has been a crucial part of the Newcastle squad this season and has made 28 appearances in all competitions in his debut season on Tyneside.
In the games where the American international has been on the pitch, Newcastle have lost just three games all season
“Yedlin didn’t realise he had the problem against Brighton. We protected him against Huddersfield, but he had to come on,” said Benitez in the Chronicle.
“But he was complaining, and you could see that maybe it would be one week or two weeks. He had a knock, maybe has a small tear.”
Newcastle’s only other traditional right-back option is Jesus Gamez, while Vurnon Anita is also another player who has filled that spot this season.
Gamez completed 90 minutes of league action for Newcastle for the first time this season at the Madejski Stadium.
Despite his large number of appearances in La Liga for both Malaga and Atletico Madrid, the 31-year-old has only made a total of five appearances in his first season at St. James’ Park.
In other Newcastle news, Simon Jordan has hit out at the Toon Army and has compared them to Leeds fans.
