Newcastle told to ‘break the bank’ after Fabian Schar update – fans react

Newcastle United fans have called for the club to “break the bank” in a deal for a new centre-back after what happened to Fabian Schar v Brest.

The Swiss defender received lengthy treatment after a blow to his ankle, but played on until he was replaced by Ellis Stanton in the closing stages of the game.

While Eddie Howe reassured that the blow didn’t look to be serious, the lack of a confirmed update has led to speculation surrounding the extent of the injury.

Newcastle have been chasing deals to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, and fans are now demanding they step up their chase.

However, Football Insider revealed on 9 August that clubs are working to hijack the deal to sign Guehi while negotiations with Palace have continued.

Newcastle United must land Marc Guehi deal after Fabian Schar injury blow

Deals for both Guehi and Thiaw have been in the pipeline for a while, but supporters have grown frustrated about the time taken to get them over the line.

With both Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles ruled out with injuries, another knock to Schar would come as a huge blow to their plans.

As a result, fans are demanding the club make rapid progress in their chase to sign a new defender, as they called for them to “break the bank” with their bids.

However, some supporters feared Palace could up their asking price if Newcastle’s need for a new defender becomes more desperate.

In other news, Wolves are plotting a “huge” move to sign Aaron Ramsdale.
