Newcastle United backed to sign Douglas Luiz ‘if the money is right’ after journalist’s update – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Newcastle United could sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz if the “money is right”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-West Ham striker said Villa could be forced into selling the 24-year-old this summer.

According to journalist Matthew Abbott, reported in Birmingham Live (30 June), Villa are willing to listen to offers for Luiz.

Aston Villa

Planet Football reported on 26 June that the Brazil international is on Eddie Howe’s radar this summer.

Luiz moved to Villa Park from Man City in 2019 and has one year left on his contract at Villa Park.

When asked if he thought a move to Premier League rivals Newcastle was likely, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Newcastle have money to burn.

Every player has a price and if Newcastle matches that price tag he’ll leave. It’ll be over the top, but if they want him badly enough they’ll pay for it.

As long as it’s not too extreme but they will pay extra money, they’ve got that.

Aston Villa will want to put a price onto him because it’s Newcastle.

Would they want to sell him to a rival? No. Will they? Yes of course they will if the money’s right.

Arsenal

Luiz has made 111 appearances for Villa across all competitions throughout his three years at the club.

He scored five goals and provided eight assists during that time.

In other news, a pundit has told Aston Villa a ‘very sizeable bid’ is needed to sign Joe Gomez this summer after £30m report.
