Newcastle United handed boost in Lamine Camara transfer after new Monaco blow

Newcastle United appear destined to secure the signature of Lamine Camara as Monaco finished the season on the lowest of lows.

Despite financial concerns often being spoken about at St James’ Park, rumours are swirling ahead of the summer transfer window, with stars not just leaving but also arriving ahead of next season.

The likes of Nick Woltemade, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have all been strongly linked with exits, so it is hardly a surprise to see the Magpies staking an interest in several high-profile European stars.

Newcastle’s transfer chiefs are likely to have a huge job on their hands over the coming months, but signing Camara from Ligue 1 appears to have gotten much easier in the last 24 hours.

Monaco can bid farewell to midfield gem Lamine Camara

Football Insider understands that Newcastle are one of the front-runners to sign Camara, and his departure from Monaco has become all the more likely after the final day of the Ligue 1 season.

Despite scoring twice against Strasbourg on Sunday, 17 May, and taking a 4-1 lead away from home, Monaco’s side eventually fell to a 5-4 defeat, seeing them miss out on European football completely.

While the Magpies are currently sitting 11th in the Premier League table, there is still a chance that Eddie Howe’s side will finish in a European spot, especially if Aston Villa can lift the Europa League title.

It has been a sensational campaign for the 22-year-old, attracting attention from all over Europe, and Newcastle need to be at the very front of the queue once the transfer window swings open.

Who else is interested in the talented midfielder?

The Senegalese international already has 39 senior caps for his national team, becoming increasingly recognised as a player for the future amongst several European clubs.

Football Insider understands that Newcastle face competition from Liverpool for Camara’s signature, and these two Premier League clubs are unlikely to be the only ones keeping tabs on him.

It is also understood that the Ligue 1 club are resigned to losing the 22-year-old this summer, with interest gathering pace ahead of what is likely going to be a tough window for Monaco.

Camara appears ready for a switch to the Premier League for the 2026-27 season, but it remains to be seen which club are at the front of the queue for his signature right now.
