Nottingham Forest could ’embarrass’ the Premier League after ‘mind-blowing’ twist – Wyness
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has claimed Nottingham Forest could “embarrass” the Premier League if the points deduction appeal process extends beyond 24 May.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted top-flight chiefs risk “failing to give clubs a fair hearing” by trying to fast-track proceedings.
Nottingham Forest were handed a four-point penalty earlier this month for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – and confirmed they will appeal the decision on Monday (25 March).
The Premier League have set 24 May as a backstop date for concluding appeals – five days after the season ends for Forest away at Burnley.
The Midlands club responded to the initial deduction by releasing a furious statement which claimed the punishment had “harmed the trust and confidence we had in the Premier League”.
Nottingham Forest appeal could ‘really embarrass’ Premier League, says Wyness
Wyness suggested it would be “frightening” for the English game if the league failed to conclude proceedings before 24 May.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Premier League have said that 24 May is the deadline for these appeal verdicts.
“I think Nottingham Forest are going to try and push that – it’d be frightening if it does go any further.
“It would really embarrass the Premier League after they gave that date out.
“I don’t know how this appeal process is going to play out.

“The problem is when the league tries to speed things up, they run the risk of failing to give clubs a fair hearing. They have to be very careful.
“It’s just a mind-blowing situation. On the business side, it’s fascinating – but it’s just incredible.”
