Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is stepping in to ensure the club get maximum value from the sale of Elliot Anderson this summer.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who believes the sale will be “crucial” for Nottingham Forest’s finances.

Marinakis is set to handle Anderson’s departure from the club, with Manchester City leading the race for the midfielder, whilst there is interest from Manchester United.

Anderson’s valuation could reach up to £100million, and any buyer may want to agree a deal before the 23-year-old steps out for England at this summer’s World Cup.

Nottingham Forest are expected to lose key players this summer, with Anderson set to bring in the biggest transfer fee to help fund new additions at the City Ground.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Marinakis and Edu may have “fallen out” over the sale of Anderson.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Marinakis will find selling Anderson “easy.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think it’ll be quite as dramatic as the Morgan Gibbs-White situation.

“Marinakis got himself involved because he knows this is his biggest asset, and he wants to get maximum valuation for it. This is where he may have fallen out with Edu. Edu must have had a certain valuation or a certain deal that he thought he was trying to put to Marinakis, and Marinakis must have thought, ‘you’re leaving 10, 15, 20 million on the table’.

“He’s now taken over control of this because it’s pretty crucial for Forest in terms of PSR and that he maximises the valuation. We know that he’s obviously a good negotiator, Marinakis, that’s what he does. He’s in the oil business right now and the shipping business.

“What a fabulous time to be involved in that right now with the Straits of Hormuz. That’s got to be a very tough market to be trading in. So I think that he’ll find player transfers quite easy compared to that.”

Man City may speed up their pursuit of Anderson after it was confirmed that Bernardo Silva would leave the club at the end of the season.

Former financial advisor at the Etihad Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Man City have made Anderson a prime target to replace Silva at the club.

With doubts over Rodri’s future, Man City could spend big to replace the duo, which can only mean good news for Nottingham Forest.

Borson believes Man City could strike an agreement at £80m with Nottingham Forest for Anderson, but Marinakis will be wanting to push that figure up.
