Nottingham Forest make Elliot Anderson exit decision in early January move

Nottingham Forest are expecting to field offers for impressive midfielder Elliot Anderson in the January transfer window.

Manchester City are interested in Anderson, as they look for a long-term replacement for former Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.

The midfielder has been plagued by injuries over the last two seasons, and has still not returned to the levels he was at before an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Manchester United are also among the suitors for Anderson, with Ruben Amorim keen to find his all-action midfield anchor.

Nottingham Forest are expected to hold out for up to £100million for Anderson, just 18 months after they paid Newcastle United £35m to sign him.

Nottingham Forest will not sell Elliot Anderson in January as alternative sale eyed

Anderson has stood out among the very best in the Premier League this season, producing consistently excellent performances for Nottingham Forest despite their struggles.

The midfielder impressed under Nuno Espirito Santo and his replacement Ange Postecoglou, before continuing to prove key under current manager Sean Dyche.

As if any more evidence was needed to represent just how impressive the 23-year-old has been – Anderson has also become a vital player for England.

Thomas Tuchel brought the Nottingham Forest man into the fold in September and has played him in every game the Three Lions have had since.

Anderson is expected to go to the World Cup this year, and he will likely start in midfield alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

Nottingham Forest will hope a strong tournament will see the former Newcastle man’s price tag grow even further, with the Daily Mail reporting on Thursday that they have no intention of selling him in January.

The Tricky Trees do need to thin the squad, however, and are instead planning to make the likes of Willy Boly available for transfer.

Thomas Tuchel’s comments on Anderson explain the hype

Anderson enjoyed a strong season for Nottingham Forest in his first campaign, but the midfielder’s rise to the limelight over the past four months has been meteoric.

The 23-year-old now appears a target for clubs across Europe, with those in the Premier League most likely to spend the money it would take to sign him.

Speaking about him in November, Tuchel said: “Anderson is a key player for us at the moment, he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League – that’s why he is with us and starting for us.

He deserves it because he has been nothing but impressive. He has to keep on going now though. He is a very complete and mobile midfielder, and that’s what he keeps showing me.”

The big move that is expected of Anderson should see him progress even further, with the summer decision set to be an important one for his development.
