Nottingham Forest: Morgan Gibbs-White can become second-ever to win Premier League award

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has been nominated for March’s Premier Player of the Month award.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a superb month, scoring against Brighton, Manchester City and Tottenham as Vitor Pereira’s side revitalised their fight for safety.

The frequent Nottingham Forest captain looked as if he could be set to leave last summer, after Tottenham triggered a reported £60million release clause in his contract.

But after a dispute between the clubs over the terms of the clause, Gibbs-White eventually opted to stay and sign a new contract.

While a controversial decision at the time, Nottingham Forest’s form may see them ultimately finish above Tottenham this season.

Morgan Gibbs-White can make Nottingham Forest history

Football Insider exclusively revealed in February that Man City are interested in Gibbs-White, among several other clubs.

And there is little surprise that the 26-year-old is attracting the eyes of clubs of such calibre.

Despite the tumultuous season Nottingham Forest have endured, having gone through three different managers, the midfielder has remained a highlight.

Although his team finished seventh last season, Gibbs-White has somehow even improved his goal-scoring, stepping up in the absence of Chris Wood.

He enjoyed a superb March, with the highlight being his moment of pure genius at the Etihad Stadium.

With his side a goal behind to Premier League title chasers Man City, Gibbs-White ran on to the ball after it was headed down by Igor Jesus and into the box.

Surrounded by Ruben Dias and Rodri, and unable to turn, the England international ingeniously backheeled the ball between his defender’s legs and past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It was a moment of brilliance that ultimately saw his side win a crucial point, and has earned him a nomination for March’s Premier League Player of the Month award, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Gordon, James Garner, Alex Iwobi, David Raya and Danny Welbeck.

Should he win it, Gibbs-White will become just the second-ever Nottingham Forest player to win the award, after Chris Wood did in 2024.

Gibbs-White snubbed by Thomas Tuchel

Despite his impressive month, Gibbs-White has been ignored by Thomas Tuchel in his selection for his latest England squad.

The competition is certainly fierce, but the Nottingham Forest midfielder will feel slightly frustrated by the inclusion of the likes of Dominic Solanke and Phil Foden.

The Man City man has barely played for Pep Guardiola’s team in recent weeks, and has not scored since the Citizens beat Crystal Palace in December.

Gibbs-White remains in contention for the World Cup squad, however, and will hope a late-season flurry will see his chances grow.
