Nottingham Forest ready to pounce on cut-price Davide Frattesi deal

Nottingham Forest are hopeful that they may be able to sign Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi for a reduced fee this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Italian giants are set to be open to the sales of several of their fringe players this summer after a disappointing effort in the Champions League this season, and the 26-year-old is among those who they are ready to sell.

The Italian international is set to enter the final two years of his contract at the San Siro, and sources have indicated that a whole host of clubs in the Premier League and across Europe are chasing him.

Forest are firmly among that group after previously agreeing a £34million loan-to-buy deal for Frattesi in January, and they are hoping that a smaller fee will be needed this time around.

The East Midlands outfit are fighting for their place in the Premier League in the final weeks of the season, and Forest’s transfer plans will be heavily dictated by which league they are in next term.

Why Davide Frattesi deal could yet be out of reach at the City Ground

Forest have ambitions of climbing back up the Premier League table next term, but they first have to ensure that they beat the drop in the final stages of this campaign.

Frattesi is an ambitious target for them to pursue this summer, given that he has experience in several different editions of the Champions League, as well as having played at major international tournaments.

The Reds appear to be well-placed to get a move for the former Sassuolo man over the line ahead of next term, but they still have a genuine fear that it could ultimately be out of reach for them.

Forest are set to see any chances of landing Frattesi evaporate if they slip back into the Championship at the end of the season, something which remains a distinct possibility at the moment.

Vitor Pereira’s side are just three points clear of the relegation zone heading into the final seven games, meaning they still have work to do on the pitch.

There are big long-term aspirations at the City Ground, but those will only be realised if the club establishes itself in the top-flight continually.

Nottingham Forest face Matz Sels exit fear

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that Forest are ready to block approaches for Matz Sels this summer amid interest from Club Brugge.

The Belgian giants have identified the 34-year-old as an ideal candidate to come in and replace Simon Mignolet, who is set to retire from playing at the end of the campaign.

However, Forest have no intention of entertaining the idea of a sale of Sels, despite the fact that he is about to enter the final year of his contract at the City Ground.

They feel that the Belgian has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in recent seasons, and they are already planning for him to be their number one once again in 2026-27.

However, that too looks set to hinge on their relegation battle, with the picture surrounding Sels’ future expected to change drastically if the Reds go down.
