Expert salutes Nottingham Forest as Dan Morris deal agreed - 'great investment'
Nottingham Forest have made a “great investment” by recruiting Dan Morris to head up their data insights operation.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
As relayed by Training Ground Guru last Friday (16 September), Forest have created the role of head of data insights for Morris.
He joins the Premier League new boys from Swansea City, where he has been a data scientist since 2017.
Forest have signed 22 players since their promotion to the top flight at the end of 2021-22.
Dinnery insists that the right people in the data department will help ease the transition period.

“What most professional teams have now is a way of measuring data,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They have large data sets for players in terms of their gameplay and their training load. What you need to do, and some do it better than others based on resources, is interpret the data well.
“What can be gleaned from the data? What kind of actionable insights can we figure out? This is what you need to figure out.
“The number of players Forest have signed has been well-documented. Understanding the data can help expedite those players’ integration into the team. It also helps them execute the footballing philosophy of Steve Cooper.
“You want to make these great investments from a position of strength, as they are in at the moment after promotion.
“Also, if they were to drop down back into the Championship, there are now the foundations of work that you have set up. That can help you bounce back if the worst happens at the end of the season.”
