Nottingham Forest to match Liverpool as Marinakis eyes big deal – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Nottingham Forest are following Liverpool as they search for a new CEO specialising in international football.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Forest are getting in ahead of other clubs as data and artificial intelligence becomes more prominent.
According to bombshell reports in Brazil (2 August), Forest owner Marinakis is keen to poach Edu Gaspar from Arsenal and install him in a new role overseeing all three of his clubs across Europe.
Liverpool have taken a similar approach with Michael Edwards installed as CEO of Football within Fenway Sports Group.
Football Insider reported on Wednesday (7 August) that Nottingham Forest have confirmed the departure of the club’s former director of football Kyriakos Dourekas.
Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis eyeing radical overhaul, says Wyness
Dourekas’ exit is a clear signal that Marinakis is eyeing an overhaul of his executive team.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We’re seeing something similar at FSG and Liverpool.
“Michael Edwards has gone to oversee football interests for the group.
“We’ll see more of it as data and AI become more important for decision-making, these guys tend to be the leaders at the clubs.
“I do think we’ll see this role becoming more important, and a sporting director will become more of a football investment manager.

“As the multi-club situations develop, the people with the football and data experience will start to fill these roles.
“They’ll be sought-after.”
In other news, Forest fans stunned as “huge” transfer update emerges.
