Nuno Espirito Santo faces nightmare scenario in first West Ham home match vs Brentford
Nuno Espirito Santo may not get the welcome he is expecting from West Ham fans in his first home match in charge of the club.
West Ham sacked Graham Potter and replaced him with former Nottingham Forest, Spurs and Wolves manager Nuno.
Nuno’s falling out with Nottingham Forest owner Evaneglos Marinakis meant the Portuguese was sacked at the City Ground despite leading the Tricky Trees to a seventh placed finish and European football last season.
West Ham have started the campaign poorly, with just one win from their opening six matches, which was against Nuno’s Nottingham Forest side.

West Ham fans to continue with Brentford protest
Nuno will be in the dugout for his first West Ham match in charge at Everton despite just two days working with his new squad.
His first match at the London Stadium will be against Brentford, who currently sit just four points above the Hammers.
However, West Ham fans have been protesting against the club owners and supporters groups have confirmed they will continue with a boycott at the Brentford match.
As per Jacob Steinberg on X [29 September], he reported: “West Ham fan groups going ahead with boycott of next month’s home game against Brentford – Nuno’s first at the London Stadium.”
Hammers fans protested outside the London Stadium before their home match against Crystal Palace, but a boycott threatens to leave the stadium empty on Nuno’s arrival.
West Ham optimism as Nuno Espirito Santo stat emerges
Nuno takes charge of a West Ham team who have leaked 13 goals in five matches, and have scored only five times in the Premier League.
In charge of his first games at Wolves, Spurs and Nottingham Forest, Nuno has won two out of three matches, keeping a clean sheet in both those victories.
Match/Result | Competition |
Wolves 1-0 Middlesborough | Championship |
Spurs 1-0 Man City | Premier League |
Nottingham Forest 2-3 Bournemouth | Premier League |
This will be the first time in English football though that Nuno’s first match is away from home and Everton are unbeaten at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this season.
West Ham though will be hoping for that new manager bounce, which would lift the club out of the relegation zone.
