Nuno Espirito Santo joins unwanted Premier League club after Nottingham Forest departure
Nuno Espirito Santo’s exit from Nottingham Forest has left the Portuguese manager alongside some famous names in an unwanted Premier League club.
Nottingham Forest sacked Nuno due to a falling out with club owner Evangelos Marinakis after publicly stating the pair’s relationship had collapsed.
Former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was appointed the new Nottingham Forest manager just hours after Nuno had departed.
Postecoglou will begin his reign at Nottingham Forest away at Arsenal, whilst Nuno now searches for his next managerial position.

Nuno Espirito Santo newest member of unwanted Premier League club
Just three games into the Premier League season, Nuno joins an unwanted list of managers to have been sacked within that timeframe.
As per BBC Sport, [9 September], Nuno is just the fourth permanent manager to be sacked after three games into a Premier League campaign.
Only Kenny Daglish and Paul Sturrock have been sacked quicker, after just games at Newcastle and Southampton.
Christian Gross was also axed after three games at Spurs, whilst Alan Curbishley and Kevin Keegan have resigned from their posts after the same number of matches.
Nuno’s last game in charge of Nottingham Forest was a 3-0 defeat to West Ham.
How Nuno Espirito Santo compares to Ange Postecoglou
After leading Nottingham Forest to a seventh placed Premier League finish last season, the news that Nuno had been sacked may not have pleased some supporters.
Postecoglou arrives having won Spurs the Europa League title last season, but his risky attacking style is vastly different to that of Nuno.
Stats | Nuno Espirito Santo | Ange Postecoglou |
Games Managed | 184 | 76 |
Games Won | 72 | 31 |
Games Drawn | 45 | 11 |
Games Lost | 67 | 34 |
In the Premier League, Postecoglou’s tactics have yet to work, with the Australian having lost more games than he’s won.
Postecoglou will point to an injury crisis at Spurs last season, but even so his stats do not make for great reading.
Nuno’s defensive stability made Nottingham Forest one of the hardest teams to beat under his guidance.
Postecoglou is not known for his defensive capabilities so Forest fans can expect a different style when they watch their team at Arsenal next.
