Paul McGrath hits out at Aston Villa ace after Nottingham Forest loss
By Amir Mir
Paul McGrath has hit out at Jonathan Kodjia’s work rate after Aston Villa were beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest.
Steve Bruce’s side suffered yet another defeat in the Championship as their Midlands rivals picked up three points at the City Ground.
Striker Kodjia had given his team the lead in the first half when his curling shot found the back of the net.
But a mistake from goalkeeper Sam Johnstone three minutes before half-time allowed Britt Assombalonga to level the scores which change the tide of the game.
Teenager Ben Brereton then scored the winner in stoppage time to the delight of the home supporters.
Former Villa defender and club legend McGrath vented his anger towards Kodjia as posted on his personal Twitter account.
“Sorry Aston Villa, even if he scores four, Kodjia is the Villan. His work rate is nil, I should have said this the other night [against Brentford].”
Kodjia has scored ten goals for Villa this season in the Championship as the Villa ace was one of nine players purchased during the summer.
He has been a standout performer for the Midlands giants all term despite their lack of form in the second tier.
Bruce, who joined the club in mid-October, was tasked to help the club gain instant promotion into the Premier League.
However, Villa are way off their target as they are 13 points adrift of sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday with 17 games left in the season.
Furthermore, they are yet to win a game in 2017 in all competitions and will be looking to claim all three points against Ipswich next Saturday.
In other Aston Villa news, this January signing was 2/10 after the defeat against Nottingham Forest.
