PL legend with glittering career would be ridiculous pick as Rangers manager
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard has seen his odds shorten to take the reins at Rangers from 25/1 to 8/1 but the idea that the Anfield youth boss is anything close the being the right candidate is ridiculous – regardless of what he done as a player.
Gerrard might not be the favourite to take charge at Ibrox but the odds, set by Bet Victor, certainly put him among the running, though after only recently starting his career in coaching the former England international is nowhere near ready to manage the Gers.
Ostersunds boss Graham Potter currently stands at 4/1 favourite with ex-Ibrox star Frank de Boer at 5/1 and Neil Warnock slightly further back, and all three would make a better choice than Gerrard just now – although none really jump out as being a great fit.
Gerrard could very well go on and be a fantastic manager later in his career but he just is not suitable for what the Gers need right now and is not going to have the sort of impact that the hiring of a Graeme Souness or Dick Advocaat did at Ibrox.
While it is very different times at the club compared to when those two arrived at Ibrox, the impact of what they done was such that it prompted a huge shift in the way the club have operated.
