Tottenham fans on Twitter have given a mixed reaction after manager Ronald Koeman handed attacker Ross Barkley an ultimatum in regards to his future.

The Dutch manager took charge of the Toffees in the summer and has helped the club push back into a top seven place after a couple of mediocre years under former boss Roberto Martinez.

However, there has been growing doubts about the futures of star duo Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley with the Belgian’s contract set to expire in 2019, while Barkley’s is scheduled for next summer.

This has now led to manager Koeman handing the 23-year-old an ultimatum in his press conference, as covered by the Sky Sports News official Twitter account stating that Barkley has one week to decide his future.

This has of course caught the attention of Tottenham fans with the Mirror reporting back in March that Barkley was Spurs’ top summer target.

It was clear that the 22-time capped England international is splitting the fan base, especially on social media and while some supporters told that they would welcome the signing, others were urging him to agree a deal with Everton.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Barkley has played in 34 of Everton’s 36 league matches under Koeman this season, but his time at the club could be nearing it’s end.

In other Tottenham news, Darren Anderton believes this Spurs star is better than record-breaking England legend.
