'Most pointless signing ever' - Newcastle fans urge club to sell flop summer signing

By Will Butcher

Newcastle fans have urged Rafa Benitez on Twitter to sell Achraf Lazaar just one season after bring the left-sided star to Tyneside.

Lazaar, 25, moved to St. James’ Park from Serie A outfit Palermo in the summer but has been forced to watch from the sidelines for the majority of the season under manager Benitez.

The Morocco international has failed to impress in the north east, making just nine appearances in all competitions for Newcastle since his summer move.

Behind Paul Dummett on the left side of defence, Massadio Haidara was given a chance in Benitez’s starting eleven during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Barnsley, leaving Lazaar third choice.

Lazaar, who joined Newcastle for £3million in the summer, has a contract until the summer of 2021 but could be allowed to leave as Benitez looks to make room for new signings.
