Prutton: This is what Radrizzani has done to attract players to Leeds
By Danny Wright
Former Leeds midfielder David Prutton believes that Andrea Radrizzani can began attracting good players to the Yorkshire giants because of his reputation and credibility.
Radrizzani sealed a deal to buy back Elland Road earlier this week, and Prutton has hinted that the way the Italian goes about his running of the Whites will strengthen Thomas Christiansen’s transfer dealings in the future.
United have already welcomed Madger Gomes and Mateusz Klich through the door, with the Yorkshire Evening Post recently reporting that Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald could become the third recruit of the summer in a £500,000 deal.
Prutton, 35, spent three years as a player for Leeds and is clearly pleased with what Radrizzani has done since gaining full ownership from the controversial Massimo Cellino.
“Radrizzani has shown himself to be credible and that reputation filters right through the club. Players couldn’t care less about who owns a stadium. Players want to play and get paid. But stability matters to them and so does ambition,” said Prutton in his column on the Yorkshire Evening Post website.
“If you’re signing a three or four-year deal you want to feel sure that in three years’ time the people who made you promises at the beginning haven’t packed their bags or left the club to rot.
“Essentially, you want to know as the bare minimum that the club you’re joining won’t get worse. Radrizzani has pretty much answered that question by doing a deal which many probably thought would never be done. The positivity that comes from this will carry him and Leeds for a long time.”
As well as buying back Leeds’ historic stadium, Radrizzani has also took the decision to buy back the ladies team, after Cellino cut funding to them in 2014.
It’s been a dramatic start to life as owner of the Championship club with several obstacles thrown in the way of the Italian businessman.
Garry Monk’s departure in May sparked a frantic search for a new manager, which lasted a few weeks before Christiansen was appointed.
In other Leeds news, this teenager has agreed a new deal with the Whites.
