Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham not to send Joe Rodon back to Swansea City on loan if they complete a deal for the defender by Friday’s deadline.
The former Leeds and Spurs goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that the 22-year-old “will be the final piece of the jigsaw for Jose Mourinho” this season.
Football Insider revealed earlier today that Spurs are confident of signing the Wales international before the domestic window closes even though no agreement is yet in place.
The two clubs are in talks over a £15million deal which could include multiple Spurs fringe players, while cash-only and buy-to-loan-back agreements remain on the table.
Robinson is adamant that Rodon could be an asset to the Lilywhites’ first team this season and would be opposed to the centre-half being loaned back to the Championship side.
“I cannot see why the deal would not go through.
“No disrespect to Swansea but he is at a lesser club and Spurs have the financial power.
“I think Rodon will be the final piece of the jigsaw for Jose Mourinho in this window.
“I do not want him to go back to Swansea on loan. I think he can play a major part this season.
“It is a position where Spurs are not blessed with an abundance of talent.
“They are buying him for a reason. It is not like other young, inexperienced players who you send back out on loan. He is a player I would like to see stick around.”
