Pundit makes 'massive' Liverpool transfer claim amid Henderson reveal
Noel Whelan has insisted tying Jordan Henderson down to a new contract is “massive” for Liverpool – and now is not the right time for him to be sold..
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the midfielder has a “crucial” role to play at Anfield this season.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (August 18th), Liverpool are in advanced talks to tie the 31-year-old down to a mega-money deal.
Negotiations had been slow between the player and the club.
However, a Liverpool source has told Football Insider there has been progress made in recent weeks and all parties expect terms to be agreed.
Henderson has been offered a deal on similar terms to his current £120,000-a-week contract, which expires next summer.

Whelan admitted there would be a time when older players like Henderson need to be moved on.
However, he insisted the Reds need his experience this term.
“His leadership and experience are absolutely crucial to Liverpool and to that squad,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He knows that team, he’s been there so long. He’s been the captain of the team, the leader, the voice inside the changing room and the voice on the field.
“Henderson offers that little bit of calmness that you need, that voice that you need on the field when things aren’t going right. I think it’s integral that big clubs keep these kind of players in and around.
“There’s going to be a transition at some point, absolutely. There’s going to be a time for these sort of players to move on. Right now is not the time for Liverpool with the season they had last year.
“He had a few injuries coming up to the Euros. Again, he showed that quality of bouncing back, keeping himself hungry and how important he is to that side.
“You’ve got Virgil van Dijk back as well. You’ve got two massive characters there in the team to drive you forward.”
Henderson played 28 times across all competitions for Liverpool last season.
He has a total of 392 appearances under his belt for the Reds.
