Pundit on ‘unexpected’ big-name January signing coming to Aston Villa after source’s reveal

Kevin Campbell has backed new Aston Villa boss Unai Emery to raid his former sides in order to put his own stamp on the Midlands giants.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the incomings may not be the “big names people will expect”.

Emery, who signed a contract until 2026 earlier this month, led his new Aston Villa side to wins in his first two games back in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (12 November) that the Spaniard is targeting former players Samuel Chukwueze and Pau Torres ahead of the January window.

It is understood that Villa chiefs will back Emery with a “huge” January kitty to bolster a misfiring squad which currently sits a lowly 12th in the Premier League.

Campbell suggested the former Arsenal boss could set the Midlands giants up to “beat almost anyone” if he is given enough transfer backing.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I expect Emery to use his knowledge and his links with his old clubs like Villarreal and Sevilla.

“He’s a very good manager with an incredible record.

“The incomings might not be the so-called big names that people will expect.

“But Emery will go for players he knows can function in his system.

“That’s the key. I expect him to go for players he knows can do the job he wants.

“He’s shown that when he’s got those kind of role players, he can set his team up to beat almost anyone.”
