Mick Quinn delivers damning Newcastle verdict on Twitter

By Emma Sanders

Mick Quinn claimed Newcastle players were “crap” and “need a kick up the backside” in a damning verdict following their disappointing 1-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day.

Newcastle suffered their fourth home defeat of the campaign after a poor performance at St James’ Park and the former striker took to Twitter to express his frustration.

Quinn was not impressed throughout the game and tweeted his frustration prior to full-time, claiming he would switch channels if the players continued to play so poorly.

The TalkSport host threatened to watch Coronation Street instead and suggested Rafa Benitez bring on Nikola Mitrovic in order to change things up but Newcastle didn’t deliver the result he was hoping for.

Newcastle could have taken the lead in the first half when Dwight Gayle’s shot was saved onto the post but in truth they struggled to create many clear-cut chances.

Glenn Loovens scored in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock and Newcastle failed to mount a comeback.

Newcastle currently sit at the top of the Championship table by just one point but second-placed Brighton now have a game in hand and could knock the Magpies off the top when they take on QPR on Tuesday.

Benitez’ side were without key midfielder Jonjo Shelvey who was forced to serve the first of his five-match bans after being found guilty of using racially abusive language towards another player.
