'Quite frankly...' - Exclusive: Whelan reveals what is wrong with Augustin at Leeds
Noel Whelan has claimed that Jean-Kevin Augustin is not “fit enough” to be starting matches for Leeds United yet.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Elland Road man suggested that he would also like to see Marcelo Bielsa play the Frenchman alongside Patrick Bamford instead of alternating the two strikers.
The 22-year-old made his bow for the Whites in the 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest over the weekend, coming on as a substitute just after the 70 minute mark.
But Whelan believes that the hitman is not physically ready to be given the nod from the outset against Brentford on Tuesday night.
“Quite frankly, I don’t think he’s fit enough,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s been given games in the U23s to get his fitness up. He’s had three games in six months.

“I don’t think he’s quite ready to start.
“What I would like to have seen, when he did come on for 20 minutes, is that you keep Patrick Bamford on and you got with a 4-4-2 or a 3-5-2 when you need to get a goal back.
“Go with two centre-forwards instead of like for like. That to me just didn’t make sense.
“You’re chasing the game [against Forest] – it doesn’t make sense to take off a striker when you need both on.”
Augustin struggled for game time during his last loan spell at AS Monaco during the first half of this season, managing just 10 league appearances for the French club.
